Vintage-BMX-ShowWaterford Oaks BMX presents the Race For Life Series on Oct. 22, 2011. The Race for Life is an annual event held at BMX tracks throughout the nation; proceeds benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The race was started 30 years ago by the American Bicycle Association, in honor of Todd Kingsbury, a boy who raced at Waterford Oaks and passed away from Leukemia.

“Todd Kingsbury was such an inspiration to the BMX community. We are honored to host the race in his honor on the 30th Anniversary of the competition,” said Chris Beer, vice president of the Waterford Oaks BMX Volunteer Association. “We are thankful for everything that he brought to the sport. We hope to help a lot of people in his memory.”

“The Race For Life is open to anyone who would like to race – it is the only ABA event at which you do not need a membership to race,” said Katie Stavale, Waterford Oaks BMX representative. “Pledges can be collected in advance and turned in on the day of the event.” Pledge envelopes can be obtained at the track.

Registration is from 1-2:30 p.m. Race begins immediately after. The race will run under the sanction and rules of USA BMX. Participants can bring a friend to share the excitement of BMX Racing and help those affected by blood related cancers. A helmet is required; USA BMX also recommends face protection. Long sleeve shirt, long pants and enclosed shoes are required.

The Waterford Oaks BMX Track is located at 1702 Scott Lake Rd. in Waterford. For more information on the event, visit WaterfordOaksBMX.com or call the track at 248-858-0915.
